About Artudio
International
Artists in Residency
Program

Welcome to Artudio! We are thrilled to introduce the AIA Residency, our International Artist Residency Program, designed as a haven for creativity where artists can freely experiment, explore, and refine their works in an inspiring artistic environment. Our program accommodates two international artists simultaneously throughout the year, providing customized residencies ranging from 1 to 6 months to meet the unique needs of each artist. Our goal is to cultivate a sustainable global art ecosystem that nurtures self-discovery, critical thinking, and artistic growth. This, in turn, empowers artists to unlock their full potential within a vibrant natural, cultural, and artistic setting.
As an Artist-in-Residence, you will have access to a vibrant art community and resources to help further your practice. Our program is designed to be both supportive and inspirational, allowing you to develop lifelong friendships, professional relationships, and future collaborations. We strive to provide a stimulating, liberal environment with reasonable fees for you to explore Nepal’s contemporary art scene, its cultural and geographical diversity, and make meaningful connections. We are confident that our program will provide you with an unforgettable experience that will inspire and propel your artistic journey.
We are situated in Swoyambhu-15, Kathmandu, Nepal, offering an ideal blend of nature and urban life, with the renowned Swayambhunath Stupa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, just a short distance away. Our location provides convenient access to the Kathmandu ring road, which is within a 7-minute walk. For those interested in delving into the rich cultural heritage of Kathmandu, our vicinity boasts three remarkable museums: the ‘Military Museum,’ the ‘National Museum of Nepal,’ and the ‘Natural History Museum of Nepal.’ These sites offer a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the city’s history and cultural treasures. Nature enthusiasts will find delight in nearby hiking destinations such as Ichangu Narayan and Jamacho, offering breathtaking views of the Kathmandu valley. These serene spots provide an unparalleled escape into the tranquility of nature. Adding to the cultural charm, the Kathmandu Durbar Square, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a mere 3.1 km away from our location. Furthermore, our surroundings include noteworthy places like Dharahara, Maru, Thamel, and Asan, each offering unique experiences and insights into the vibrant tapestry of Nepal’s culture. In choosing our location, you can relish the best of both worlds – the allure of natural beauty and the exploration of significant cultural landmarks. Come and experience the essence of Nepal as you embark on a memorable journey in this captivating city.

Anna Hartman-Ksycinsk

Youri Alvites has been obsessed with drawing and painting ever since he was young. Being on the road in solitude and in search of archetypical forms, had let him create story’s through cryptic shapes and an unconstrained technique. Simultaneously flirting with big city life, flashy streets and endless bars, thinking about the New York school, DADA, DIY culture, and advertisements. These contrasting topics interact in a new way, by referring to a place forever in motion. By applying, removing, covering and painting over illustrative building blocks, these elements combined, speak a language. Enhancing mistakes and coincidences is an essential part of this process. Living in these fast and complicated times, had let Youri rethink about community and ways to reconnect with one and each other though art.

Barbara Bryła

Barbara Bryła is Polish photographer based in Katowice, Poland. She discovered her fascination with photography when she was a student. At that time, she photographed only in black and white using an analog camera. Barbara is a true traveler. She experienced her first great expedition 1980-81 discovering the traditions in India, Nepal and Ceylon. She captured the experiences from these trips on slides, which were published in the form of a photobook only in December 2022. The first edition of the issue was very popular and got sold out entirely in just a few weeks. Since 2015 Barbara has been an active member of Photography Workshop in Katowice, Silesia., where she supports young participants in meetings, travels and exhibitions.

Dolakha Album

Witness the power of art to unite communities and inspire creativity. The Dolakha Album, a community homestay art residency program was a truly transformative experience curated by Kailash K Shrestha, artist and founder, Director of Artudio. From May 3rd to 10th, 2016, talented Nepali contemporary artists, including Sujan Dangol, Surendra Maharjan, Sandhya Silwal, Rajan Shrestha, and Abhimanyu Dixit, were brought together for a community homestay art residency in Gairimudi, Dolakha. But they weren’t alone – artists from the Global Art Collective also joined in for a community sculpture burn. This residency showcased how art can bring diverse minds together and create something truly beautiful. Let’s be inspired to pursue our passions and use our talents to build bridges and connect with others. The possibilities are endless when creativity leads the way.
