Siddhartha Arts Foundation Education Initiatives hosted a Lecture Series – “Kala Ko Bisaya.” at Siddhartha Art Gallery on 28th August, 2015.
“Traditional Aesthetics of Nepal: Paubha and Mithila Art” by S C Suman and Lok Chitrakar gave a presentation on
the recent lecture series.
Lok Chitrakar came from a family of artists and started using brushes at the age of 12. His renowned paubha paintings have been featured in Japan, USA, Finland, Germany, Denmark, Canada, S. Korea, England, India, Singapore, Switzerland, Russia, China and was recently awarded the National Talent Award from the Ministry of Culture. He has also been honored by DB Chitrakar Awards, Vajrakalakunja (2010), and artist of the year by Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (2005). He is also the founder and president of Sumeru Art Village, draft designer for CTEVT Skill Testing of Paubha Painting for Level Three, and member of NAFA (Nepal Nepal Academy of Fine Arts). He is also the visiting faculty at Kathmandu University Center for Art and Design, and instructor at Orivesi Institute, Finland.
Moreover, S C Suman, known for his masterly treatment of the nuances of Mithila art, actively works with the organizations for the development of art for more than 20 years. A member of Nepal Academi Coucil, and Head of Department of folk at NAFA, he showcased his work in Nepal, India, USA, UK, Japan, Denmark, Canada, Netherlands, France, Kenya, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, Egypt, Korea, Mexico, Australia, and has published numerous articles on fine arts and culture published in national daily papers, and magazines. He is also an advisor for Mithila Kalakar Samaj, Maithili Sewa Samiti, and Birat Mithila Natya Kala Parishad. A member of Siddhartha Art Foundation, Nepal Lalit Kala Sangam, Chitransh, Sewa Parishad, Chetana Sanrakchhan Pratisthan Nepal, and Rita Memorial Trust, he has been honored by KU & American Embassy Kathmandu (2013), Kalrab and Yumma Fine Art Academy, Dharan (2012), Maithili Bikash Abhiyan, Biratnagar (2011), and Maithili Sewa Samiti, Biratnagar (2011) among many others.
