Introducing Justina Semčenkaitė: June 2025 Resident Artist at Artudio

We are excited to announce Lithuanian artist and sustainable fashion designer Justina Semčenkaitė as our new Resident Artist for June, 2025.

With over eight years of active creative practice and five years of experience teaching at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Justina’s work challenges the boundaries between fashion, art, and activism. A Ph.D. candidate in Design, she focuses on fashion as a vehicle for sustainability, social commentary, and community engagement. Her distinctive style—bright, surreal, and ironic—often incorporates the color pink and explores themes of socio-cultural stereotypes, environmental issues, and personal well-being.

Justina is widely recognized for her experimental fashion collection GIRL POWER and the exhibition Welcome to the Pretty Ugly World. She is also the curator of SUTVERTÌ, a show examining sustainability in fashion, and serves as the Lithuanian coordinator of the global movement Fashion Revolution, advocating for ethical practices and fair working conditions in the garment industry.

During her residency, Justina will continue her Ph.D. research, which investigates the role of fashion in 21st-century activism. Her project will explore how local spaces and communities can inspire new forms of activist expression through fashion. From walking the neighborhood and gathering visual references, to community-based workshops using crochet and knitting as tools of craftivism, Justina aims to co-create a collective garment that reflects the textures, voices, and stories of the place and its people.

The residency will culminate in an exhibition, showcasing the final work as a symbolic activist relic—a shared outcome of dialogue, making, and meaningful collaboration.

Please join us in welcoming Justina Semčenkaitė as she begins this inspiring journey with us. Stay tuned for updates, open studio sessions, and community engagement opportunities throughout her residency.
