Mapping Her: A Threadline of Feminism

Presented as part of Artudio’s AIAR (Artudio International Artist Residency), June 2025
In collaboration with IEC College of Art & Fashion, Kathmandu

Mapping Her: A Threadline of Feminism offers an intimate encounter with fashion as a powerful language of resistance.

This unique event explores feminist histories through the act of embroidery, transforming thread and fabric into vessels of memory, identity, and activism. Lithuanian fashion design researcher Justina Semčenkaitė (Vilnius Academy of Arts) presents a one-of-a-kind embroidered garment that intricately weaves symbols and stories of both personal and collective feminist struggles.

During her residency with Artudio in Kathmandu, Justina deeply engaged with Nepal’s fashion and textile landscape—observing local dressing practices, connecting with artisans, and reflecting on the cultural and political meanings embedded in garments. Her wearable archive that maps the ongoing dialogue between fashion, feminism, and identity—revealing how these themes can be read, worn, and lived.

Hosted at IEC College of Art & Fashion, this event invites audiences to experience embroidery not just as craft, but as a narrative form—where every stitch connects past and present in a continuous threadline of resilience.
