Artudio International Artist Residency (AIAR) is pleased to welcome Lalit Mohan Singh, a visual artist from Dehradun, India, for the June–July 2026 residency period in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Coming from a unique background as a former marine engineer with nearly two decades of experience at sea, Lalit Mohan Singh’s artistic practice emerges from the intersection of machinery, oceanic environments, and human consciousness. His works transform the mechanical realities of marine engineering into expressive visual narratives that move between abstraction and figuration.
Working primarily with acrylic on canvas and paper, Singh develops layered surfaces through scraping, reconstruction, and material accumulation—processes that echo the pressure, endurance, and repair systems familiar within maritime environments. His paintings reinterpret industrial structures, propulsion systems, and mechanical rhythms into poetic visual landscapes influenced by waves, currents, and atmospheric movement.
During his residency at AIAR, Singh will continue expanding his exploration of industrial memory, psychological landscapes, and the fragile relationship between human systems and nature while engaging with Nepal’s cultural and artistic context.
AIAR continues to foster critical exchange and dialogue by welcoming artists from diverse disciplines and lived experiences into Kathmandu’s evolving contemporary art ecosystem.
