We are pleased to welcome Austin Krauss to the Artudio International Artist Residency (AIAR) for October–November 2026.
An itinerant boat carpenter and B-boy from upstate New York, Austin Krauss self-identifies as a “Funk-realist”—a practice that moves between writing, fiction, printmaking, carved reliefs, and the visual language of medieval manuscripts and Hip-Hop culture.
His work often brings attention to overlooked subjects and everyday forms, combining gritty realism with religious imagery, elaborate framing, and a distinctly personal visual vocabulary. His published writing has appeared in Black Rose Books, God’s Cruel Joke, and The Ampersand Quarterly.
During his AIAR residency, Austin will continue developing his first novel and its accompanying visual language, while exploring Kathmandu’s artistic, cultural, and everyday environments.
We look forward to welcoming his interdisciplinary practice into the Artudio community and facilitating conversations and exchanges with local artists and cultural practitioners.
