Artudio invites artists from all over the world for the Artudio International Artist Residency (AIAR), a year-round program designed to offer a creative space for artists from various disciplines. The residency offers flexible durations ranging from 1 to 3 months. Situated in historic city Kathmandu and Patan Nepal, Artudio provides a safe and unique environment for artists to engage in contemporary art practices, contribute to the local art community and learn from it.

Artudio offers residents an immersive opportunity to engage with Nepal’s dynamic traditional and contemporary art scene, fostering both creativity and collaboration. The program provides dedicated time and space to deepen your artistic practice while experiencing the rich cultural, spiritual and natural heritage of Nepal.

Artudio is based in two historic cities of the Kathmandu Valley—Kathmandu and Patan—each surrounded by rich heritage, culture, and artistic energy.

Our main Kathmandu hub is situated on Chhauni Hospital Road, Swoyambhu, near the UNESCO World Heritage Site Swayambhunath Stupa. The area offers a balance of urban accessibility and scenic tranquility.

Patan — Nakabahil (Next to Patan Gate / Patan Dhoka)

Our Patan wing is located within the Patan World Heritage Site, at Nakabahil, right next to the historic Patan Gate (Patan Dhoka).

Additional Facilities Artudio provides at Both Spaces:

  • Basic printing and photocopy services (A4)
  • Networking opportunities within Nepal’s traditional and contemporary art ecosystem
  • Exhibition and presentation support at Artudio Patan Wing Gallery (no extra gallery fees)
  • Twice-monthly visits to galleries, studios, museums, and cultural sites
  • Access to shared studio spaces for extended or independent work
  • On-site coffee shop for convenience (Swoyambhu location only)

ArtudioHead Quarter, Swoyambhu : Shared studio workspace within the apartment, along with access to an additional shared 800 sq. ft. studio space in the same building.

ArtudioPatan Wing: Personal workspace with an individual desk in the residence studio apartment, plus access to a shared 400 sq. ft. studio within the same building.

What applicant artists need to contribute to Artudio?

1 Month – USD 750
Expected :

  • Final Presentation or Open Studio or Exhibition
    Workshop for children
  • and youths

2 Months – USD 1400
Expected :

  • Final Presentation and Open Studio or Exhibition
  • One-day workshop for children and youths

3 Months – USD 2100
Expected :

  • Final Presentation, Open Studio/Exhibition (solo/group)
  • 3-day intensive workshop for children and youths

Artists are welcome to bring one companion—either a family member or partner—for an additional $10 per day.

All residency fees are to be settled upon arrival at the residency.

Other Responsibility of Artists:

  • International and domestic travel, including flights
  • Daily meals ( Artudio will offer welcome and farewell dinner )
  • Exhibition curation cost
  • Printing of promotional materials (A4 Size B/W printing will be supported by Artudio)
  • Personal travel and excursions (Artudio will take care of local cultural sites and studio/gallery visits)
  • Art supplies and production materials
  • Personal health insurance
  • Trekking expenses (optional)

How to Apply?

To book your residency, please apply at least three months in advance. You will also receive invitation letters, recommendation letters, and certifications to support your travel and funding.
