Kailash K Shrestha I Visual Artist

Kailash K Shrestha is a Kathmandu-based visual artist who uses a wide range of visual languages & processes to create both personal and relatable works critiquing the socio-political realities of Nepal. Shrestha founded Artudio, a center for contemporary arts to advance art practices, initiatives, and visual arts education amongst grassroots communities, public spaces, and larger audiences. He established the Pran Community arts center in his home village of Gairimudi in the wake of the devastating 2015 earthquakes that affected the locality heavily. Shrestha is the first Nepali artist to receive the Australian Himalayan Foundation’s Art Award and is regularly involved with national and international events/exhibitions.

Krisha Tamrakar is a Kathmandu-based graphic designer, illustrator and author born in 2052 B.S. Ever since she was a little girl, she has loved to create pictures, which ultimately led her to join Art and Design School in Kathmandu. After her BFA degree in Graphic communication, she was naturally drawn towards the fascinating world of illustration and storytelling. Along with creating designs for notable clients to elevate their company profile with her contemporary design works, she also creates her own picture books.

Influenced from her surroundings and emotions, Krisha likes to work around stories that are easily relatable, interactive and connect different people and communities. “The end of my story is just the beginning of the reader’s story,” she shares.

A few examples of the books she has illustrated include Araaya’s Fables written by Nirvana Chaudhary, Nyaku Baja ra Gunla written by Rownika Shrestha (published by Baakhan Nyanewaa), Ek Bitte written by Krishna Raj Sarbahari (published online on Let’s Read, published by Asia foundation), Aadi ko Khali Dimag written by Krishnadip Sigdel (published by Shangrilla), Sushmita and Romit to the dentist, written by Anita Lenaerts (published by Kathalaya).

Krisha is Co-director at Artudio, a center for contemporary visual arts, where she has been actively leading various curatorial art & education projects.
