Kathmandu, Nepal — October 27, 2024 – Artudio, Center for contemporary Art in Chhauni Hospital Road, Swoyambhu, recently hosted “TIES”, a pop-up photography experience featuring the works of five emerging artists. The exhibition, which ran from October 25 to October 27, explored the theme of connection through experimental and alternative photography processes, creating a profound visual experience for all attendees.
About TIES
The TIES exhibition posed a simple yet powerful question: “What does it mean to be connected?” Through alternative photography, the participating artists investigated themes of community, heritage, identity, and shared experience. Each artist’s work blurred the lines between self and society, tradition and innovation, drawing the viewer into an intimate exploration of their personal narratives and the connections that shape us all.
Mentored by artist Rupesh Man Singh, the exhibition provided a platform for these young artists to stretch the boundaries of conventional photography, experimenting with alternative processes that added depth and texture to their storytelling. Singh’s mentorship guided the artists through techniques like cyanotypes, photomontages, and pinhole film photography, encouraging them to push their creativity to new heights.
The five artists featured in TIES included:
- Prasiddha Shakya
- Aarya Maharjan
- Kabir Kayastha
- Lijen Maharjan
- Ranjan Khadka
The exhibition launched with an opening event on October 25 at 4 PM, drawing a lively crowd of art enthusiasts, students, and mentors. Visitors engaged with the artists, who shared insights into their processes and inspirations, as well as the significance of the exhibition’s theme. Mentor Rupesh Man Singh’s influence was evident as he encouraged these artists to embrace new forms of expression, challenging them to convey complex emotions and ideas through the lens of alternative photography.
The TIES exhibition not only showcased the evolving potential of photography as a storytelling medium but also highlighted the powerful bonds that tie us together through shared experiences and expressions. Artudio and our co-founders artist Kailash K Shrestha and Krisha Tamrakar’s dedication to nurturing young artists and fostering a space for creative exploration shone brightly through this event, creating an enriching experience for all who attended.
The exhibition closed on October 27, 2024, leaving attendees with reflections on the connections that shape us, as seen through the unique lenses of these promising young artists.
