Artudio inaugurated Textile Scripts, a contemporary Lithuanian textile art exhibition, on April 16, 2026, at Artudio – Patan Wing, Kathmandu. The opening brought together artists, cultural practitioners, distinguished delegates, and members of the diplomatic community, marking a significant moment of cross-cultural exchange.
The evening was held in the presence of H.E. Ambassador Diana Mickevičienė, whose participation underscored the strengthening cultural ties between Lithuania and Nepal. The gathering created a dynamic space for dialogue around material practice, memory, and contemporary artistic expression.
Curated by Odeta Žukauskienė, Textile Scripts features the works of Laima Oržekauskienė-Ore, Monika Žaltauskaitė Grašienė-Žaltė, Lina Jonikė, and Gerda Liudvinavičiūtė. The exhibition situates textile within an expanded contemporary framework—where it operates not only as material or technique, but as a conceptual language that engages with narrative, time, and lived experience.
Across the exhibition, textile emerges as an active medium—one that carries traces of labor, identity, and cultural memory. Through diverse approaches, the artists explore the relationships between body, environment, and process, offering layered interpretations of textile as both surface and structure, gesture and archive.
A key dimension of the exhibition lies in its origin. Textile Scripts was initiated following Gerda Liudvinavičiūtė’s residency at Artudio last year, reflecting an ongoing dialogue that extends beyond the residency framework. This continuity highlights Artudio’s commitment to sustaining meaningful artistic exchanges and fostering long-term collaborations.
In his opening remarks, Artudio’s Founder and artist emphasized the importance of creating platforms where international and local practices can intersect meaningfully. By placing Lithuanian contemporary textile art within the context of Nepal’s diverse material traditions—deeply rooted in ancestral and indigenous knowledge—the exhibition opens a space for shared reflection and expanded understanding.
The opening program included welcome remarks from Artudio, followed by an address by H.E. Ambassador Diana Mickevičienė and a curatorial introduction by Odeta Žukauskienė. The evening concluded with guests engaging closely with the works and participating in intimate discussions and performance by Gerda Liudvinavičiūtė..
Textile Scripts remains on view at Artudio – Patan Wing until April 23, 2026, open daily from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
Artudio extends its sincere gratitude to the artists, curator, collaborators, and all who contributed to the realization of this exhibition, as well as to everyone who joined the opening evening.
