The Fundamentals of Visual Art course is designed as a structured entry point into the language and practice of visual art. It focuses on building essential skills while cultivating an understanding of how and why images are made.
This course introduces participants to the core disciplines of drawing, painting, and composition, developing observational ability, material control, and visual clarity. Through guided exercises and studio-based learning, participants engage with the elements of art—line, shape, form, color, texture, space, and value—and the principles of design, including balance, contrast, rhythm, emphasis, and unity.
Beyond technical training, the course encourages creative thinking and visual awareness, helping participants understand how ideas are translated into form. Emphasis is placed on process—experimenting with materials, exploring different approaches, and gradually building confidence in one’s own visual language.
An introductory engagement with art history and theory provides context to these practices, allowing participants to situate their work within broader artistic and cultural frameworks.
