A Solo Exhibition by AIAR Artist Lalit Mohan Singh
Artudio is pleased to present Inner Yards: Unmapped Memories, a solo exhibition by Indian artist Lalit Mohan Singh, presented as the culmination of his residency with Artudio International Artist Residency (AIAR).
The exhibition brings together a new body of work developed during Singh’s residency in Kathmandu, where he continued his exploration of memory, silence, and imagined interior landscapes. A former marine engineer with nearly two decades of experience at sea, Singh draws upon the psychological conditions of isolation, endurance, and transformation rather than depicting the maritime world directly. His paintings evoke spaces that exist between presence and absence—where memory is fluid, fragmented, and constantly reshaped.
Working through processes of layering, scraping, erasure, and reconstruction, Singh creates paintings that capture the essence of doorways, walls, passages, and light, subtly informed by his experiences and observations of Nepal’s architectural and cultural landscape. Rather than depicting specific locations, these works evoke contemplative spaces where memory, atmosphere, and absence converge, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and bring their own memories and experiences into dialogue with the paintings.
Developed as an outcome of the Artudio International Artist Residency (AIAR), Inner Yards: Unmapped Memories reflects the residency as a space for artistic inquiry, reflection, experimentation, and cultural exchange. Created during Singh’s time in Nepal, the exhibition brings together a new body of work shaped through immersion in the local environment, meaningful dialogue, and sustained studio practice, offering audiences an intimate glimpse into his evolving artistic journey.
