PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu, Artudio initiated the Street Art Project focusing on the theme of social inclusion and equity. By combining cross-cultural exchange, research, workshops, public discourses, and a publication, Artudio intends to wield street art forms to acknowledge, celebrate, promote, inspire, and incite voices of the minority and socially excluded community in Nepal. Artudio also aspires to showcase the creative potential of mural and graffiti art to inspire social change and establish critical public dialogue on key issues of inclusion and equity. To realize this aspiration, Artudio invited Nepali artists to submit their concept designs to be a part of this exciting Street Art project and engaged shortlisted artists in various curatorial engagements in Janakpur and Kathmandu for the final mural project. The project project collaborated with distinguished mural artist Man One from the United States with Nepali artists. The project helped promote collaboration and introspection among the Nepali participating artists on the power of art to inspire change in society. The project also created a platform for underrepresented artists to reach new policymakers on important issues related to inclusion and equity.
Project Objectives
Showcase the creative potential of graffiti/street art to inspire social transformation and establish critical public dialogue on key issues of inclusion & equity.

The Wall of Unity
“Wall of Unity” The final project is a collaborative mural from artists from diverse backgrounds, geography, ethnicity, and art forms. This makes not just artwork, but the process itself diverse. It represents the emotions of people from Nepal to the USA, from the plains to hills to the Himalayas. The main theme of the artwork is to highlight unity and diversity. The artwork plays on themes of social inclusion through vibrations. We are all different, but we connect on a sensory level. In this way, “Wall of Unity” celebrates traditional instruments and music from various ethnic groups of Nepal. These instruments were developed separately in the plains, hills, and mountains of Nepal, but the culture of making sounds is human, innate, and global. The wall of unity also shows unity and diversity through the different skin tones, cultural dress, and ages portrayed on the wall. Likewise, the artists’ diverse art practices, origins, and backgrounds unite to create harmony in this piece.

आर्टुडियोले अमेरिकी दूतावास काठमाडौंसँगको सहकार्यमा सामाजिक समावेशीकरण र समानताको विषयवस्तुमा केन्द्रित भित्ते चित्रकला परियोजना २०७९ (Street Art Project 2022) प्रस्तुत गरेको हो । अन्तर-सांस्कृतिक आदानप्रदान, अनुसन्धान, कार्यशाला, सार्वजनिक प्रवचन र प्रकाशन लाई संयोजन गर्दै नेपालका अल्पसंख्यक र स्थानीय अनि सीमान्तकृत आवाजहरू स्वीकार गर्न, सहभागी कलाकारहरू बीच सहकार्य गर्दै कलाको शक्तिलाई उत्सवको रूपमा मनाउदै र सांस्कृतिक विविधतालाई प्रवर्द्धन गर्दै समाज परिवर्तनको लागि प्रेरित गर्न, समावेशीकरण र समानताका प्रमुख मुद्दाहरूमा महत्वपूर्ण सार्वजनिक संवाद स्थापना गर्न भित्ते कलाको प्रयोग गर्ने प्रयास गरेको छ ।
आर्टुडियोले उक़्त आकांक्षालाई साकार पार्न नेपाली कलाकारहरूलाई यस रोमाञ्चक भित्ते कला परियोजनाको महत्वपुर्ण हिस्सा बन्न अवधारणा डिजाइन पेश गर्न आमन्त्रित गर्दै परियोजनाले नेपाली कलाकार र संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिकाका प्रतिष्ठित भित्ते चित्रकारहरू (Street artists/ Muralists) सँग सहकार्य गर्दै कलाको माध्यमबाट नेपालको जीवन्त बहुसांस्कृतिक समाजलाई प्रदर्शन गर्ने लक्ष्य राखेको छ। साथै समावेशी र समतासँग सम्बन्धित महत्त्वपूर्ण विषयहरूमा नयाँ नीति निर्माताहरूसम्म पुग्नको लागि अवसर नपाएका कलाकारहरूको लागि पनि एक मंच सिर्जना गर्नेछ।
उद्देश्य
• सामाजिक परिवर्तनलाई प्रेरित गर्न र समावेशीकरण र समानताका प्रमुख मुद्दाहरूमा आलोचनात्मक सार्वजनिक संवाद स्थापना गर्न भित्तिचित्र कलाको रचनात्मक क्षमता प्रदर्शन गर्ने।
• कलाको परिवर्तनकारी शक्तिमा नेपाली कलाकारहरू बीचको सहकार्य र आत्मनिरीक्षणलाई बढावा दिने ।
• नयाँ नीतिनिर्माताहरूसम्म पुग्नको लागि न्युन प्रतिनिधित्व भएका कलाकारहरूको लागि एउटा मंच सिर्जना गर्ने ।
पहिलो चरण
• आर्टुडियो ले नेपाली कलाकारहरूलाई संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिकाका प्रतिष्ठित भित्ति चित्रकारहरूसँग सहकार्यको लागि अवधारणाहरू पेश गर्न खुला आह्वान गरेको थियो ।
• २८ नोभेम्बर २०२२ मा लाइभ आर्ट शोकेसमा, १० सर्टलिस्ट गरिएका कलाकारहरूलाई ललितपुर नगरपालिका कार्यालय बगैंचामा सामाजिक समावेशीकरण र समानता सम्बन्धी महत्त्वपूर्ण छलफलहरूलाई प्रेरित गर्दै आफ्नो कला अवधारणाहरू चित्रण गर्न आमन्त्रित गरिएको थियो र पछि उनीहरूको कलाकृति प्रदर्शन पनि गरिएको थियो ।
दोस्रो चरण
• चार सर्टलिस्ट गरिएका कलाकारहरू: खेमबहादुर पाल्पाली (सिन्धुली), मनिषा शाह (सर्लाही), सुदीप बल्ल (भक्तपुर), र किरण महर्जन (ललितपुर) जनकपुरका २३ लोक मिथिला कलाकारहरू र प्रख्यात USA भित्तिचित्र/सडक कलाकार म्यान वान सँग सहकार्य गर्दै पप-अप भित्तिचित्रहरू सहित विभिन्न क्युरेटरीयल मध्यस्थता र हस्तक्षेपहरूमा संलग्न गरिएको थियो । ।
• अन्तमा, चार जना नेपाली कलाकारहरू, म्यान वनसँग मिलेर एकता भित्तिचित्र पूरा गर्न सहकार्य गरे।
साथै कलाकार द्वय छिरिङ्ग फोंजु, मुस्ताङ् र बिशाल मानन्धर , थिमीले पनि कलाकारहरु संग सहकार्य गरि म्युरल सृजनामा सहभागी हुनुभयो।
“एकताको भित्ता”
भित्ते कला परियोजनाको अन्तिम भित्ते कला विविध पृष्ठभूमि, भूगोल, जाति, र कला विधाका कलाकारहरू संगको सहकार्य हो । यस परियोजनाले कलाकृति मात्र होइन, प्रक्रिया आफैंमा समबेसिकरण र समानताको अभ्यास गरेको छ। यसले नेपालदेखि अमेरिकासम्म, तराईदेखि पहाडसम्म र हिमालयसम्मका जनभावनाको प्रतिनिधित्व गर्दछ। कलाकृतिको मुख्य विषय विविधता भित्रको एकता उजागर गर्नु हो।
कलाकृतिले ध्वनिहरुको कम्पन मार्फत सामाजिक समावेसीकरणको विषयवस्तुहरूमा केन्द्रित गर्दछ। हामी सबै फरक छौं, तर हामी संबेदनाको स्तरमा एउटै हौ, यसरी “एकताको भित्ता” ले नेपालका विभिन्न समुदायको परम्परागत वाद्य र संगीतमार्फत भावनात्मक सम्बन्धको गहिराइमा प्रवेश गर्दछ। यी वाद्यबादनहरु नेपालको तराई, पहाड र हिमालमा छुट्टाछुट्टै विकसित भए पनि ध्वनि संस्कृति मानवीय, जन्मजात र विश्वव्यापी छ भन्ने कुरामा विचार रख्दछ। एकताको भित्तोमा चित्रित विभिन्न संगीत सामग्री, वर्ण, रंग, सांस्कृतिक पहिरन र उमेरहरू मार्फत एकता र विविधता पनि देखाउँदछ। त्यस्तै गरी, कलाकारहरूको विविध कला अभ्यासहरू, उत्पत्ति र पृष्ठभूमिहरू यस कलामार्फत सद्भाव सिर्जना गर्न एकजुट भएका छन् ।
यो भित्ते कला परियोजना समसामयिक कलाकार र आर्टुडियोका संस्थापक तथा कलाकार कैलाश के श्रेष्ठ द्वारा क्युरेट गरिएको हो।
