This event is being offered by the Global Art Collective, a NGO based in the U.S.. It’s end goal is to promote the arts from and in developing and under-developed countries in collaboration with ARTUDIO “centre for visual arts”.
Matt Rockwell, founder of the organization, will be giving the workshop along with guests Dan Rockwell and Christian Worth. The two guests will be joining us via skype.
Matt first started building websites over ten years ago and has worked for several web start-ups. In addition to starting this organization in the summer of last year; he works for Burning Man, a decomodified art festival/social experiment. He has been teaching technology for nearly a decade during his travels around the world and back home in the U.S.A.. He is currently in Nepal founding an experimental digital media company that is owned and operated by internet users.
Dan Rockwell will be joining us one night from the East Coast of the United States. He is one of the most followed business leadership writers on the web. His twitter following and blog subscribers are a testament to his solid insight and wisdom. Huffington Post and the AMA both listed him in the top leadership writers of today. He travels around the country giving lectures and seminars on leadership and business. You can find him by searching: Leadership Freak.
Christian Worth graduated from a Penn State affiliate with a degree in Computer Sciences focusing on Web Development. He too has been building websites for over 10 years and will be helping us setup accounts, load themes, and other “stuff” from his home in Colorado. He will share with us a brief intro on web languages; covering basic syntax and semantics of commonly used web languages.
Over the course of this workshop, participants will create their own WordPress website with custom url and web hosting.
Important Topics Covered:
- Web Server: Ftp, domain name registration and assignment, webmail, cPanel, CMS installation, File Manager,SSL
- WordPress: Themes, plugins, content creation, dashboard, editing source files, customizing themes, hooks, widgets, appearance, functionality, WooCommerce, payment gateways.
- Other: SEO, Server Configuration, Web languages, user experience, registering with search engines like Google and Yahoo.
The class is intended to have people, who have never created their own websites before, build their own sites over the course of the workshop. Outside of the workshop, Matt has offered to provide some tutoring outside of class if the need arises.
Suggested Donation is 1500 NPR per person. What you get: your own domain, web hosting for a year, and workshop classes. If you cannot afford the donation please contact Matt and wildcard@globalartcollective.org and we can work something out.
